On Friday, April 22, guests and locals alike are invited to indulge in sustainably sourced meats and seafood at two of James Beard Smart Catch Leader's most sought-after restaurants—Lionfish at the hip Pendry San Diego and Serēa at the iconic Hotel del Coronado—with portions of proceeds benefiting the Surfrider Foundation of San Diego County.

Chef JoJo, in case you don't know, is a San Diego native and longtime supporter of sustainable sourcing and ocean-friendly practices, relying on the local agricultural and oceanic bounty as inspiration, infusing his hometown culinary pride with influences from coasts across the globe. He is a strong supporter of using underutilized, underloved seafood (aka “trash fish”) as an alternative to overfished popular varieties of fish, in addition to working with an array of local and regional purveyors including Tuna Harbor Dockside Market; Catalina Offshore Products; Los Angeles based Superior Seafoods; and Baja California’s Pacifico Aquaculture, which has created an innovative, sustainability-first farming program for premium, ocean-raised sea bass.
