Many might agree that there’s nothing more crave-worthy and satisfying than chocolate. Should a chocolate fiend discover chocolate paired with flavors like crunchy hazelnut butter, salted almond butter, and smooth coconut praline, you might find yourself okay with becoming fully committed to the addiction. These are just three of the new flavors of Magic All-One Chocolate bars unveiled for product launch later this summer by local, family-owned, certified B-Corp business Dr. Bronner’s—and we’re here to gladly fawn over all of them.

How Does Soap Lead to Chocolate?

Made with chocolate from regenerative and organic growers in Ghana, rest assured that every ingredient in these luscious bars has been meticulously sourced and crafted for the greater good—and, they’re vegan. Like with all Dr. Bronner’s products, Magic All-One Chocolate is made with everyone in mind, maximizing social and environmental stewardship in the supply chain.

“When we learned that many of the 800 farmers who supply our Regenerative Organic Certified Serendipalm project in Ghana also grew cocoa, it was a perfect opportunity to grow our partnership with fair trade farmers by developing these cocoa beans and other ingredients—all sourced to the highest standards possible—into a rich, delicious dark chocolate that elevates soil and community health, as well as quality of life for everyone in the supply chain,” says David Bronner, CEO (cosmic engagement officer) at Dr. Bronner’s. “Dr. Bronner’s is making magic through regenerative organic agriculture and its many benefits: dynamic agroforestry, biodiversity, soil fertility, better livelihoods for farmers, and delicious, rich, dark chocolate!”

Chocolate production has gained global attention and concern surrounding topics of destructive industrial farming practices, heavy use of pesticides, with subsequent low crop yields and labor exploitation. Magic All-One Chocolate offers a conscientious solution: The base of each bar starts with 70% dark chocolate made from cacao beans cultivated through dynamic agroforestry practices that promote biodiversity. By mimicking how such plants would work together in a natural, healthy, tropical forest, the cacao trees compliment palms and other crops that improve yields and revenues for producers. These practices also help to reduce the use of herbicides and pesticides because the plants have better natural defenses.

“The true cost of chocolate production has been externalized and paid by cocoa-producing communities in the service of profit for a few at the expense of many—leading to widespread ecological destruction, climate instability, poverty, worker exploitation, child labor, and even slavery,” says vice president of special operations Gero Leson. “We want to model a move away from extractive capitalism to a truly constructive model. This thinking is at the foundation of Dr. Bronner’s decision to bring our magic chocolate to market.” Leson is author of the newly published book Honor Thy Label, based on Dr. Bronner’s ethical supply chain.

The Chocolate Bars

Each chocolate bar flavor has been crafted by world-class Swiss chocolatiers and industry leaders, and is enhanced with sustainably-sourced vanilla from Madagascar and sweetened with coconut sugar from Indonesia, a healthier alternative with a lower glycemic index. Six flavors that satiate desires for both lovers of chunky chocolatey bites with nuts and creamy decadent fillings debuted at grocery retailers in August 2021:

  • Salted Dark Chocolate (for the purists)
  • Roasted Whole Hazelnuts (so crunchy)
  • Crunchy Hazelnut Butter (oh goodness)
  • Salted Whole Almonds (more crunch, please)
  • Salted Almond Butter (yes)
  • Smooth Coconut Praline (can. not. wait.)

“Our recipe is simple: perfectly balanced delicious ingredients sourced from fairly paid farmers implementing regenerative organic practices, that fulfill chocolate’s promise as an expression of love, elevating it to be the pure and ethical indulgence it is meant to be,” says Michael Bronner, president of Dr. Bronner’s.

Each bar is wrapped in 100% recycled paper with a minimum of 80% post-consumer recycled fiber, and as with all Dr. Bronner’s products, Magic All-One Chocolate is certified USDA Organic, Fair Trade, Vegan, Kosher, and Non-GMO Verified.

Clearly, we’ll be eating Magic All-One Chocolate for a good cause.
