Spiked Melon Agua Fresca

Embrace the colorful melon season with this refreshing spiked agua fresca. Share with friends at an end-of-summer BBQ or sip it poolside with a good book. This drinkable delight pairs well with a prosciutto-filled charcuterie board, grilled chicken with tarragon, or carnitas tacos with heirloom tomato pico de gallo.

Ingredients for

Spiked Melon Agua Fresca

2 of your favorite ripe melons (I chose canary melons)

5 cups water

16 mint leaves

Juice of 3 limes

1 cup agave or ½ cup white granulated sugar

Ice

8 ounces of your favorite tequila

SERVES 6–8

Instructions for

Spiked Melon Agua Fresca

  1. Cut melons in half and scoop out the seeds. Either rinse and freeze them to plant next year or compost them. 
  2. Cut the melon into slices and carefully remove the skin with a knife.
  3. Add cut melon, water, mint, lime juice, and agave or sugar into a blender.
  4. Blend on medium until the mint becomes specks of green, about 20 seconds.
  5. Prepare a ½ gallon pitcher with plenty of ice and pour the tequila over the ice.
  6. Pour the melon mint mixture over the tequila and stir with a spoon.
  7. Garnish with melon flowers and sprigs of mint.
